What a year 2015 has been! Record cattle prices as we entered 2015 with history making highs in the feeder and live cattle market as we rolled through the year into September.

It is not uncommon during this time of year for Canadian Grain Commission inspectors at grain terminals to occasionally find some grain deliveries contaminated with treated seed. To prevent contamination, the Canadian Grain Commission asks producers to take precautions at seeding and harvest.

A seed sorting technology currently being tested at the University of Saskatchewan’s Canadian Feed Research Centre (CFRC) in North Battleford promises to create value for farmers, deliver consistent product to processors, and protect export markets.

A new study by the Pearlman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania revealed the radiation protection of conferred humble flax seeds. The researchers noted that the protection offered by flax seeds even included repair of tissues after exposure. The study was published in a recent issue of BioMed Central Cancer.
